Julie Cooling
Founder & CEO
Julie graduated from Bucknell University in 1994. She started her career at SEI Investments as an Associate on the Bank/Trust Technology team. She moved to San Francisco to work for Montgomery Asset Management as a National Accounts and Product Development Manager for their start-up, broker/dealer, separately managed account and load mutual fund team. When Montgomery was purchased, she moved to Webster Investment Management (Forward Funds) to grow their intermediary distribution and marketing group. She also acted as Product Developer for Gordon Getty's project, Reflow, which is a start-up mutual fund auction technology that exists today (www.Reflow.com).
Julie founded ManagerDirect.com (an online money manager profile system) in 1999. After struggling to raise money, she went back to Webster Investment Management as a regional wholesaler and covered eight states in the Southeast.
After having her first child, Jack, in 2002, Julie started a financial services consulting business, Labworks, LLC. She sourced the buyer for Active Index Advisers (IXIS Asset Management, now Natixis Global), and assisted several start-up financial services firms with capital introductions, sales and marketing. While pregnant with her second child, Kate, and raising money through the RIA channel for a private real estate limited partnership, Redbrick Partners, Julie revisited ManagerDirect.com. Instead of trying to raise capital and pitch a plan, she sourced a solid technology team and rolled up her sleeves. She changed the business model from money manager profiles to independent advisor profiles and launched RIA Database in 2006 to assist asset managers reach their asset raising goals.
Five years, four databases and nearly 400 clients later, Labworks, LLC has become the leading provider of financial advisor data in the United States.
